In case anyone was thinking of having a go at the wiki challenge for tomorrow night’s first semi final of Mastermind the subjects are Oscar Winning Performances of the 1990s, the Life and Death of Stars (presumably astrology rather than film and TV) Peep Show and The Great Escape (doesn’t say whether this means the real event, the book, the film or all three).
Couple of observations about the subjects. The first one
must go a lot deeper than just who won Best Actor/Actress – Supporting Actor/Actress,
I would have thought – surely must be asking a lot of details about the films
for which they won. Again, the Life and Death of Stars seems unusually
specific, but since I know so little about the subject who am I to judge? Peep
Show was previously a subject in the 6th semi final of 2018 where it
took Sarah Jane Bodell to within just one point of reaching the final. As for the
Great Escape, well, it all depends on the scope of the subject. Personally I do
tend to think that if the round was only focusing on the film then that’s a
more narrow focus than I like to see – but as I said it may well be about the
subject of the real life Great Escape, which would be perfectly valid. Just my
opinion and as always, feel free to disagree.
It's an all bloke semi, and it looks to me as if first
round leaderboard topper Michael McPartland is first up judging by the
photograph.
If you fancy having a go at the Oscars, maybe this will
help
