I think JP's tongue was in his cheek a little as he said it - I think he's an English graduate himself so probably didn't know itLondiniushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07871325359167581176noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5401280171563686515.post-56628567527837268992014-01-11T07:18:32.062-08:002014-01-11T07:18:32.062-08:00I thought Paxo was harsh about the Hardy-Ramanujan...I thought Paxo was harsh about the Hardy-Ramanujan number as it seemed like the person who said 'it's an uninteresting number' had the right anecdote in mind. To quote Hardy, "I remember once going to see him (Ramanujan) when he was ill at Putney. I had ridden in taxi cab number 1729 and remarked that the number seemed to me rather a dull one, and that I hoped it was not an unfavorable omen. "No," he replied, "it is a very interesting number; it is the smallest number expressible as the sum of two cubes in two different ways."LisaHhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01470405082290927092noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5401280171563686515.post-9522911733600274402014-01-11T04:28:21.377-08:002014-01-11T04:28:21.377-08:00Good to have the regular series back. The Christma...Good to have the regular series back. The Christmas series was OK, but I think we can all agree that nothing can beat the regular series.

I think we can now safely say SOAS should be taken very seriously, having comfortably defeated two good teams, one of whom broke 300 in another match. That said, most of the other teams in the QFs have done just that as well, such as Trinity and Somerville.

Both teams converted bonuses very well: Reading managed 9/15 when they managed to get in, while SOAS's rate was 23/37.

I think we should be prepared for some very good matches from here on in. Almost all the teams have had at least one convincing win. It's been a great series so far, and I'm pretty sure things aren't going to slow down just yet.Jackhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06254840979557920582noreply@blogger.com
