Personally, I don’t particularly like the fact that the words “University Challenge” are visible throughout much of the new sequence – it doesn’t tie in well with Roger Tilling’s voiceover – and the logo isn’t that befitting of a highbrow quiz show such as UC. It’s a bit too futuristic.
I love the new set, however – even if that’s largely because I’ve set foot on it! I’ll be appearing later in this series, so I’ll hopefully follow your blogs throughout.
This episode is quite a curious choice for a series opener. Yes, it was a low-scoring one, with low bonus conversion rates by both teams – but I would have really struggled with the questions here if I were contesting them. It’s certainly good ammunition for Mr Paxman’s claim that this series is “harder than ever”, so we shall just have to see how hard they keep it in the coming weeks. Plus, if we’ve learnt anything from last year’s Bangor team, it’s that a low-scoring debut does not preclude the possibility of great success later in the series, so I wouldn’t write off Queen’s Belfast yet. Joseph Greenwood’s tally of seven starters was especially impressive.Cromarty(IV)https://www.blogger.com/profile/15342294193850474531noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5401280171563686515.post-8622809814466748602013-07-23T14:35:34.471-07:002013-07-23T14:35:34.471-07:00Yeah, I'm James from King's rather than Ja...Yeah, I'm James from King's rather than Jack!

Never mind, will be following your blogs again as well as the series. Still, I thought that the Queen's skipper, Joseph Greenwood, played well. Really and truly when you get right down to it he was the difference between the two teams. Once he found his range with the starters Aberdeen just fell further behind. I think we all noticed that last year the average scores were lower than previously. Wonder if the pattern will be the same this year.jim360https://www.blogger.com/profile/11827592412424749053noreply@blogger.com
