Definitely doesn't hold the attention.tabstophttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13761166685551109196noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5401280171563686515.post-17133102866216062412012-12-07T04:59:50.451-08:002012-12-07T04:59:50.451-08:00Just watched this for the first time. If yesterday...Just watched this for the first time. If yesterday's show was anything to go by it should be called "22 Things You Should Know." A grand total of 22 questions and lots of dreary banter between the contestants and an understandably bored looking Sandi Toksvig. The gimmick of having guest celebs reading the questions is an inane one: "Hello, my name's Gareth Thomas and I'm feigning interest in a very easy question about sport."

The questions really are of the mind-numbingly dreary variety, probably mined from the depths of a book called "The World's Worst Pub Quiz." As others have said there is no escalation of difficulty, the questions are as dull and easy at the end as they are at the beginning.

The only interest for me was in discovering if I could answer every one of the 22 questions correctly. To the best of my knowledge I've never come close to a 100% record on a quiz show before, but I'll never have a better chance. 11 out of 11 in the first half of the show with no difficulty whatsoever. Might as well have a go at the question Sandi asks the viewers to mull over during the ad break. Science, my weak spot. "How many bones in the human body?" Ah, I heard this just the other night at a pub quiz - 206. 12/12.

And so the second half begins. A question about a Leeds-born, Michelin star-winning celebrity chef detained me for a moment - it's not Blumenthal, Ramsey or Oliver so it's probably Marco Pierre White. It had to be really. Onwards towards the perfect show, hopefully...

"In which year was the Channel Tunnel opened?" Ah, a slightly tricky one. I hate "year quesions", but I had this in a pub quiz a few months ago. I didn't get it then but I know it now - 1994.

We're into the anti-climactic endgame. Almost there. If it's Finch and American Literature it's almost certainly "To Kill a Mockingbird." Back to the human body, a maximum of 4 questions away from a clean sweep. It's a weak area but I consoled myself with the thought that these questions are drearily obvious even for someone who knows as little about science as I do. Dermatology - skin; so far, so mundane. "What is the pollex?" Damn, I should know this one, but I don't. Ah yes, of course, the thumb. That's one thing I should have known. Feeling slightly deflated that the perfect game had eluded me, I was glad to see the smart, stylish and rather delightful Tessa Dunlop asking a question on History. Maybe this guest celeb thing isn't such a bad idea after all? Get Tessa in to host the next series and send Sandi off to look bored somewhere else. On second thoughts don't - scrap this show and replace the dreadful Ann Widdecombe with Tessa on the next series of "Cleverdicks", a proper quiz show.

Back to the show as it limps towards a "climax" with Peel and Wilberforce, typically gentle questions but surprisingly sufficient to ensure that no-one goes home with any cash. "21 Things I Knew and 1 Thing I Should Have Known." At the rate of 5 shows a week it's going to take the best part of 4 years to get to 1001 Things I Should Have Known. Will I record today's show in the hope of getting them all right? Probably not.Ewan Mhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15634824712637908230noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5401280171563686515.post-74053911738170660742012-12-07T04:54:12.870-08:002012-12-07T04:54:12.870-08:00This comment has been removed by the author.Ewan Mhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15634824712637908230noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5401280171563686515.post-35633295367695812442012-12-07T04:42:08.912-08:002012-12-07T04:42:08.912-08:00This comment has been removed by the author.Ewan Mhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15634824712637908230noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5401280171563686515.post-17742348360910846222012-12-04T13:16:32.691-08:002012-12-04T13:16:32.691-08:00A very poor show.
