In all fairness, it's a tired show these days, with viewing figures well below what they were in the early 2000s.

And when they're repeating episodes from five years ago - and it's not the first time these particular episodes have been repeated - you just know the barrel's being scraped...Des Elmeshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17386363933499184036noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5401280171563686515.post-82016551690904095442011-04-26T01:28:45.211-07:002011-04-26T01:28:45.211-07:00Hi Chris

What I will say though is that the meanness aspect of WL kind of intensified as it went along. In the early shows I don't think la Robinson was ever quite so personal in her comments as she became. As for people whom she picks on now, well you have to say that they have no excuse for not knowing what they are letting themselves in for.

One thing that I didn't mention about the show which really grates on me is the sycophantic 'flirting' , for want of a better word, that goes on between her and some of the male contestants. Don't misunderstand me, she has kept herself in shape, but please, the idea of blokes in their 20s and 30s salivating over this woman who is closer to 70 than 60 is just as disturbing as the idea of a 20/30 something woman acting like that towards a bloke with a bus pass.

Sorry about that - I got a little carried away there. Thanks for commenting.

DaveLondiniushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07871325359167581176noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5401280171563686515.post-77182755803711092372011-04-25T14:07:26.653-07:002011-04-25T14:07:26.653-07:00I will be glad to see the back of the Weakest Link...I will be glad to see the back of the Weakest Link. It has spawned a whole generation of shows where being mean to someone and going home with nothing are de rigeur.
It may just be me but I was brought up with the notion that if you can't say something nice about someone, you're better off saying nothing at all. I was explaining to friends at work why I refused to watch that gypsy wedding thing or why I find Borat and the like distasteful - this idea of encouraging people to behave outrageously and then laughing sneeringly at them for their stupidity when they do is something I find reminds me of picking on the kid who was different at school. The Weakest Link, for me, was one of the first shows to adopt this attitude and its success encouraged others to follow suit. Even though I refused to watch it, my boycott was insufficient to attract the attention of TV execs. I would be delighted if the BBC replaced it with something a little less uncharitable but I'm not holding me breath.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5401280171563686515.post-22689324739958544732011-04-25T09:40:53.331-07:002011-04-25T09:40:53.331-07:00Hi Jack

I don't mind Nick Knowles, but I'm afraid that the BBC are doing with him what they tend to do with any light entertainment personality who doesn't make the viewers turn off in droves - namely shoving him onto everything regardless of how good it actually is, until the public get thoroughly sick of him.Having said that I would rather watch five hours of Nick Knowles than five minutes of Shouty McGurney (Davina McCall).

DaveLondiniushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07871325359167581176noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5401280171563686515.post-16183337514395224512011-04-25T05:10:02.131-07:002011-04-25T05:10:02.131-07:00No real surprise their getting rid of the Weakest ...No real surprise their getting rid of the Weakest Link, Dave. Most of the ones they show now are repeats anyway.

And, what with Nick Knowles having done Secret Fortune for the last wee while, surely he needs a break from Saturday nights?!Jackhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06254840979557920582noreply@blogger.com
